Arizona Car Accident: Crash on 101 in Glendale Kills 2, Injures 2

On Tuesday afternoon in Glendale, Arizona, a rollover car accident occurred on the Loop 101 highway that killed two people, and left two more injured.

Arizona Department of Public Safety officials informed that the crash took place at around 6 p.m., when the driver of a Dodge pickup truck, later identified as 52-year-old John Horn, apparently lost control of his vehicle while in the southbound HOV lane near Glendale Avenue.

The truck veered across the southbound side of the roadway, and struck the rear left side of a Chevy Silverado SUV that was being driven by 32-year-old Juana Camacho Pina. It was said that Pina had just entered onto the freeway at Northern Avenue, and was in the process of merging into the traffic flow.

The impact caused both vehicles to be propelled off the roadway as they rolled past the shoulder and into the desert on the side of the road.

Horn and a passenger, his 15-year-old son, were both ejected during the car accident, having not been wearing their seat belts. Horn, of Chandler, AZ, was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital and was later pronounced dead. His son broke his leg and was taken to John C. Lincoln Hospital.

DPS revealed that Pina's SUV had rolled at least five times through a right-of-way fence. Pina, of Buckeye, AZ, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her passenger, 42-year-old Guadalupe Pina De Birruete, also from Buckeye, was transported to John C. Lincoln Hospital suffering from a broken left clavicle.

Police have indicated that it is not clear as of this time what exactly caused the accident, and an investigation is ongoing.

It is not known at this time what would have caused the driver of the truck to lose control of his vehicle, if indeed that proves to have been the scenario. An investigation will likley give us a better picture of what happened.
