Eastbound Frank Lloyd Wright was temporarily shut down after a violent truck-bicycle accident that left a 12-year-old boy with serious injuries after being hit by a pickup truck.
The collision occured at about 9:15 a.m. at the intersection at Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard and Thompson Peak Parkway.
According to Police Officer David Pubins of the Scottsdale Police Department, the boy had the right of way, as he was riding northbound on the east side of the road, through the crosswalk with a green-light traffic signal for north-south traffic. Officer Pubins 49-year-old driver of a white Ford pickup truck struck the boy while making a left-hand turn onto Thompson Peak.
The boy was reportedly not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision and he suffered severe injuries including multiple head fracture and a broken leg. He was transported immediately by ambulance to Phoenix Children's Hospital for emergency care. It is reported that there is a positive prognosis on his survival at this time.
Pubins revealed that the driver of the truck will be cited for failing to yield the right-of-way to the boy on the bike. He further stated that impairment was not found to be a factor in this incident, but they will continue to investigate deeper into this case.
