Two people were injured this morning as the result of a violent T-bone car accident, as a garbage truck crashed into a sport utility vehicle in Phoenix.
A spokesman for the Phoenix Fire Department indicated that, after the collision with a KIA Sorento, the driver of the garbage truck had to be extricated after his vehicle became stuck in between the air conditioning unit and electrical box that belonging to a church near 35th Avenue and Sweetwater Avenue at about 8:20 this morning. He said that they were both taken to the hospital and that neither had life-threatening injuries.
The spokesman stated that the unnamed driver of the Kia was likely at fault, saying the driver ran a red light, causing a terrible T-bone collision with the oncoming garbage truck. The SUV was propelled into a bus top after hitting the dump truck.
During the course of the accident an air conditioning unit was destoyed. As a result, Arizona Public Service had to shutoff power in the area, leaving a nearby church without electricity. Upon arriving at the scene, Pastor Wayne Kirk of Northminster Presbyterian Church explained, "This is unfortunate, a big garbage truck has run into our...fortunately it hasn't hit the building itself, but taken out one our 15 ton air conditioning system and the protective wall surrounding it, destroyed all power to the church, which is going to affect our food bank, as well as our services as we start the season of Lent."
The building's entire power panel must be replaced to get the electricity running again, and there is no estimation as to how long this will take. This is sure to have a huge negative effect on the church's food bank, as one of the powerless buildings houses a number of refrigerators that have two weeks' supply of food stored for the area's needy. The church is hopeful that a donation of generators will come in time to save the food.
Being a Phoenix car accident lawyer at a Phoenix car accident law firm, you can only see the positive side in that it looks like noone was fatally injured in this collision.
The drivers' names in this incident have not been released and we hope they each have a quick and successful recover from their injuries.
